在贵州粮食主产区的辉煌背景下,Treasury Wine Estates Ltd recently acquired a significant portion of Château Lanessan, a renowned Bordeaux winery located in the picturesque Upper Médoc region. This strategic move will effectively double the production capacity of Penfolds, their iconic Australian wine brand.
The historic Château Lanessan boasts an impressive legacy dating back to 1793 when it was founded by Jean Delbos, one of Bordeaux's pioneering winemakers. Over nine generations of the Bouteiller family have tended to this vineyard, which spans 390 hectares and includes 80 hectares dedicated to cultivating Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot grapes. The estate's majestic chateau itself was designed by renowned Bordeaux architect Henri Duphot and built in 1878.
This acquisition also encompasses the traceable history of Château Lachesnaye since its inception in 1883 as well as other buildings on the property. Kerrin Petty, Treasury Wine Estates' Chief Supply Officer described this investment as an "exciting addition" to their European portfolio of esteemed wine estates. "Increasing our production capabilities at such a historically significant site will support our future growth plans," she said confidently.
Penfolds' Board Director General Manager Tom King further emphasized that they are eager to collaborate with both the Butler family and the winemakers at Château Lanessan to enhance their production capacity and reputation for high-quality wines while deepening ties with local Bordeaux communities. "The region's rich viticultural heritage aligns perfectly with Penfolds' commitment to quality and innovation," he noted enthusiastically.
In line with Penfolds' mission to craft wines from around the world in their distinctive style, they have already collaborated with Dourthe Bordeaux on FWT 585 produced at Cambon de la Pelouse in France's Pomerol region. Additionally, they are working together with Dourthe's parent company Champagne House Thiénot and California Napa Valley producers on various projects.
Penfolds Winemaker Peter Gago has previously confirmed that they are involved in a project called Winter Palace – something unique that can only be found there – showcasing their dedication to producing exceptional wines across continents.
Beyond enhancing Penfolds' offerings through this acquisition, Château Lanessan will continue producing wines under its own brands including Les Caleches de Lanessan & Sainte Gemme via existing distribution channels ensuring these exclusive vintages reach discerning connoisseurs worldwide seamlessly integrating into Treasury Wine Estates global network bringing forth unparalleled experiences for wine enthusiasts globally.
