INSPIRE: A Celebration of Women in Wine
"I am thrilled to be a part of this tribute," said winemaker, wine merchant, and industry icon Zelma Long. "The recognition of the achievements of women in this industry fills me with pride." Chiodo and Dunbar are visualizing elements for the monument at multiple locations across Napa and Sonoma wine country, and have established an advisory committee to oversee the project.
On April 7th, at Chiodo's studio in Napa, California, the launch ceremony for the celebratory project was held where it was announced that the initial sculpture would reside at Ceja Vineyards in Carneros region, crossing two wine production areas. The monument is dedicated to Amelia Morán Ceja's inspiring story as a Mexican-American woman who became CEO of her vineyard.
Chiodo is developing concepts for monuments through sketches and models while Dunbar is sparking interest. In line with community spirit giving back, INSPIRE: A Celebration of Women in Wine monument project will include art apprenticeships provided by Chiodo's studio for local students and aspiring artists.
"Chiodo's monument INSPIRE: A Celebration of Women in Wine will represent the crucial role women played in shaping wine development and encourage more women to seek careers in agriculture and winemaking," said Dunbar. "As an additional benefit, this monument will reinforce Napa Valley as a world-class artistic destination."
