Suckling himself explained the reasons in his introduction: "This year's World 100 Best Wines list reflects the best wines we tasted in 2022, while also highlighting the special regions, vintages, and producers we discovered over the past 12 months. For example, we really liked many of the best red Bordeaux from 2019, so there are a dozen on the list. There are also 17 Napa Valley wines, mostly from an excellent vintage year. On the other hand, we chose fewer Italian and South American wines because producers had to deal with hot and lower-quality years."
In our top 100 wines provided by James Suckling's “2022年世界100强”,the most abundant ones come from California, Oregon or Washington State - all of which were released in this outstanding vintage year that followed closely after another great one in 2018.
Overall speaking, it seems that while Suckling has high praise for some Italian and South American wines during his tasting journey last year but he was not impressed enough to include them into his top ranking for this particular list. This is quite different compared to previous years where he did have some recognition for these regions' wine production.
The result shows us how much diversity there is within each region’s offerings when it comes down to selecting only one hundred out of thousands upon thousands of fine quality bottles available worldwide!
