Jane Cook herself expressed her excitement about the massive support for the passport plan, both from wine enthusiasts eager to explore new locations and local businesses that have signed up. She is thrilled to know that the project has had such a positive impact on these independent businesses, which bring so much unique charm and flavor to our city; without them, Cardiff would be a duller place.
One such location is Vermut, an independent microbar specializing in sherry, Montilla-Moriles wines and absinthe. Initially finding it difficult to attract local customers due to its unique model, the passport plan provided people with an excuse to come in and try something different – all they had to do was ask for a stamp of approval. According to Jack Holtom, manager at Vermut: "Over the past year or so we've seen a steady increase in customer numbers largely thanks to Cardiff Wine Passport encouraging people's confidence in coming in and trying out something new; all they needed was permission – no fear or hesitation involved."
Breaking through the 30k pound income milestone proves that this concept has gained traction among supporters but its overall revenue impact may be even higher; Cook notes that most passport holders choose additional food pairings and bar snacks when collecting stamps from each venue. Currently limited only within Cardiff but set for expansion into Bristol by 2024.
The current price of each card stands at £26 per person who can select six glasses of fine wines from twelve participating venues across town centers. The future looks promising as more hidden gems are discovered under this initiative fostering collaboration between local enterprises while offering consumers exciting experiences along with their taste buds' journey through various flavors!
