在一个阳光明媚的下午，Tom C. Davies sits in his office, surrounded by rows of wine bottles and the faint scent of grapes. As the CEO and Managing Partner of V. Sattui Winery, he has spent over four decades perfecting his craft and sharing it with the world.

But how did this journey begin? For Tom, it all started with a passion for food and wine that was ignited by watching Graham Kerr's cooking show "The Galloping Gourmet" in the late 60s and early 70s.

"I wanted to be like him," Tom recalls with a chuckle. "He was so passionate about cooking and wine."

After high school, Tom worked part-time at Brookside Vineyards on the famous Culinary Institute campus in Napa Valley, where some of California's first vineyards were planted by missionaries.

By the time he graduated from Chico State University in 1979 with a degree in business administration, Tom was hooked on wine.

"I fell deeply in love with wine," he says simply. "My roommates were also into it, so we would have these elaborate dinners paired with wines even though we were on a tight budget."

In 1980 during summer break before starting law school at UC Davis, Tom began searching for a job that combined his passion for wine with his business background. It was through a game of table tennis that Dario Sattui hired him as one of V.Sattui's first employees at $5 an hour.

Today, after over four decades working at V.Sattui Winery – including stints as Chairman & President – Vice Chairman & General Manager – Chief Operating Officer & Director; Board Member Visit Napa Valley; Industry Issues Committee Chair & Board Member Napa Valley Grapegrowers - , Tom continues to explore new horizons while cherishing old memories:

What did you dream to become when you were young?

A builder.

What was your first job?

At age 14 I got my work permit to work for my dad at Rancho Mirage’s Thunderbird Ranch Country Club near Palm Springs. I worked in maintenance then later transportation/receiving department throughout high school years among many famous movie stars/celebrities.

What do you want or don't want to try out?

Try: Blue Angels pilot or astronaut.

Don't try: Home life as we know today today I can’t fathom why people dedicated to making their community better will tolerate what is prevalent worldwide now — sharp-tongued cutthroat culture.
